We are grateful for your interest and enthusiasm and will be sharing more soon!
What does neuroscience have to do with somatics?
As a somatic practitioner, you already work with the nervous system—whether you call it that or not. You support shifts in movement, perception, emotion, and self.
Neuroscience helps you understand how those shifts happen. It gives you clear language, broader context, and a wider audience.
But real neuroscience is hard to find. It’s buried in academic journals and warped by pop-psychology. This course changes that.
We translate complex science into clear, practical insights—connecting what you experience with how it works.
Complex science. Made simple.
For somatics.
Who We Are
We’re Tim and Sebastian—PhD-level neuroscientists and longtime somatic practitioners.
Our backgrounds span decades of research in sensorimotor neuroscience, postural control, and the autonomic nervous system. At the same time, we’ve spent years immersed in somatic practices such as the Alexander Technique and Contact Improvisation.
We created Neuroscience for Somatics in response to a growing need for scientific models that reflect the depth and complexity of somatic experience.
Too often, we saw practitioners relying on outdated, overly simplistic, or even pseudoscientific explanations—creating more confusion than clarity.
And we don’t blame them. Neuroscience is vast and complex. And translating research into real-world insight takes years of specialized training. That’s where we come in.
We’ve spent thousands of hours sifting through the literature and distilling key insights. The result?
Neuroscience for Somatics— a course that bridges experience and understanding. In this course, we share up-to-date neuroscience in a clear, accessible way to help practitioners better understand and communicate what they do
Who its for
Important: This edition of the course is open only to Alexander Technique Teachers. This may be the only time we offer the course with this focus.
Enrollment is limited to 40 participants.
Learning Goals
Bridge science and experience
Gain deeper insight by examining your work through both scientific and experiential perspectives.
Build confidence
Understand how somatic practices connect to processes in the brain and body.
Communicate with clarity and credibility
Use the language of modern neuroscience to place your work in a broader context and connect with a wider audience.
How does it work?
Neuroscience for Somatics runs over ten weeks: eight weeks of teaching and two weeks for integration.
Each week, you move through the content at your own pace—then join us live to share and integrate. Here’s what that looks like:
Weekly material
- 1–2 hours of pre-recorded video lectures
- A short reflective essay linking science to your own experience
- A short quiz to reinforce key ideas
- Optional readings if you want to dig deeper
Live session (90 minutes on zoom)
- Pre-submitted Q&A for those who can’t join live
- Live questions
- Breakout rooms
- Group discussion
- Calls are recorded if you can’t join live.
NOTE: To receive a certificate of completion, you’ll need to watch all course videos and complete the weekly quizzes.
